The second vice president of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, highlighted this Monday, after knowing the unemployment and hiring data for February, that the Spanish labor market "is better now than five years ago." "And that is great news," added the minister.

On his social networks, Díaz has stressed that the February data, which show a decrease in unemployment of 7,452 people and an increase in permanent hiring of 6.1%, are the result of the Government's employment policies.

"They told us that we would destroy jobs and we are not only creating them, but we are transforming the labor market (...) The labor reform has improved the quality and quantity of employment," said the minister, who stressed that 46% of the contracts signed in February were indefinite.

Díaz has pointed out that the total number of unemployed people ended February at its lowest figure for this month since 2008.

"In the last 15 years, in the month of February, unemployment increased on average by 33,238 people. Now it is not only reduced, but the new contracts are of better quality," said the minister (...) The second vice president has also placed emphasis on reducing female unemployment, which is at a 16-year low, with 88,600 fewer women unemployed than in February 2023.
