Czech Police reinforce surveillance on the streets and Internet after the Prague shooting with 14 dead

The Czech Republic Police have announced that they will adopt "preventive" security measures following the shooting that left 14 dead on Monday at a faculty at Charles University in Prague, which will involve greater surveillance on the Internet and in public places, including schools.

The Police have clarified in their X account that they do not know of any additional threat, but they have warned the population that agents with long weapons will patrol the streets, with another "less visible" part on social networks, examining the different publications to detect potential suspects.

The Ministry of the Interior has requested citizen collaboration to clarify an incident that has shaken the Czech Republic. The Prime Minister, Petr Fiala, appealed this Friday for the unity of all of society after the "brutal attack", encouraging society to remain united and not spread information that cannot be verified, to prevent the spread of hoaxes.

The Police have confirmed in a press conference that the process of identifying all the victims has been completed, both the deceased and the injured. The Minister of the Interior, Vít Rakusan, indicated in an interview that, of the 25 injured, at least three are foreigners, specifically from the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands.

The alleged shooter, who would have acted alone, committed suicide after the attack, according to initial investigations. Authorities have identified him as a 24-year-old student who had a permit to have firearms and no criminal record. The Police suspect that he acted inspired by another similar event abroad.

The Police also consider that there are indications that the same suspect could have committed two other murders last week, of a father and a baby, in a wooded area near Prague, although the authorities are waiting for ballistic tests to confirm the murders. indications that already point to a link between the two events, according to public television.

The Government has declared this Saturday as a day of mourning, while demonstrations of support continue at the doors of the faculty. Both the media and the Police themselves have recounted the scenes of chaos experienced on Thursday, when the gunman broke into the building armed and numerous students were forced to lock themselves in classes and even hide in the façade.

The security forces have released images from the officers' cameras to show what the first moments were like and have defended their actions. Thus, for example, they have explained that the shooter was even shooting from the roof at people outside the faculty - three of the wounded correspond to these shots.
