Cristina Ibarrola maintains the Mayor's Office of Pamplona for UPN as the force with the most votes

EH Bildu, PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo Navarra have not agreed on an alternative

PAMPLONA, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The regionalist Cristina Ibarrola has been invested this Saturday as mayor of Pamplona in the constitutive session of the City Council as the UPN candidate was the most voted candidacy in the last elections of May 28 and no agreement was reached between other political forces to propose an alternative government with an absolute majority. Ibarrola thus gives continuity to a regionalist municipal government after the four years of Enrique Maya at the head of the Consistory.

In a plenary session that she commented at 12 noon, Cristina Ibarrola had the support of the 9 councilors of her formation, UPN, and those of the two PPN councillors, a total of 11, when the absolute majority in the Consistory Pamplona is 14 in a plenary session with 27 councilors. The eight councilors of EH Bildu, the second force with the most votes in the City Council, have supported their candidate Joseba Asiron, who has also received the support of Geroa Bai (2) and Contigo Navarra (1). The third force in the Consistory, the PSN, which has 5 representatives, has voted for its candidate, Elma Saiz.

EH Bildu and PSN needed to add their votes, and have at least Geroa Bai or Contigo Navarra to form an alternative to UPN, but no agreement has come to fruition. EH Bildu claimed the mayoralty for his candidate, Joseba Asiron, arguing that they were the first force among the so-called "progressives", and they refused to give their vote to another formation. For its part, the PSN ruled out the possibility of supporting EH Bildu and proposed seeking a majority around Geroa Bai's candidate. Finally, there has been no alternative and UPN has maintained the Mayor's Office as the force with the most votes.

The plenary session began this afternoon after an indoor parade of the new Corporation, which has previously met in the Reception Hall on the first floor of the Town Hall to, from there, parade through the corridor that connects this unit with the Hall plenary sessions, in a row of two, preceded by three maceros. Clarinets and kettledrums have also participated in the parade.

The procession paraded to the sound of timpanists and clarinet players and before Municipal Police officers in full dress to the Plenary Hall, where the public of the session was waiting for them, standing.

From that moment on, the plenary session has been held under the Presidency of the Age Table, made up of Koldo Martínez (Geroa Bai), as the oldest councilor; Aitor Silgado (UPN), the youngest councilor of the current Corporation; and the secretary of the plenary session, Miguel Ángel Cuesta.

The first act of the session consisted of the declaration of conformity by the secretary of the credentials of each of them. And after that, Martínez has called, in alphabetical order, to the councilors to swear or promise from their armchair to abide by the Constitution and the twelfth Pamplona City Council Corporation has been officially constituted.

Then, by single vote, the councilors have voted for the person they chose to hold the Mayor's Office. The voting procedure establishes that the person who obtains an absolute majority in the vote is elected, that is, 14 positive votes. As it was not reached in the plenary session this Saturday, Cristina Ibarrola was automatically proclaimed mayor, as the head of the most voted list in the elections last May.
