BARCELONA, 4 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has defended this Sunday that his main objective is that the people of Barcelona "have guaranteed tap water", after accelerating the works in the city to get more ground water in the current episode of drought.

However, he pointed out that it is up to the Generalitat and the Government to "say how they are going to guarantee it" and what measures have to be adopted, in statements to journalists after the reopening of the Jardins de Josep Munté.

"We are already taking care of the rest," Collboni stated, in reference to the decree that came into force this Sunday to process different emergency investments for 14.4 million euros to expand and improve the groundwater network, which will increase 20% the volume of water for irrigation and street cleaning.

The socialist has highlighted the "magnitude" of this investment, compared to that of the last twenty years, which he has assured has been 20 million euros.

Collboni will meet this Monday at noon with the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, to "follow up" on the Spanish executive's proposals to address the drought in the region.

The mayor has admitted that he is not "officially" aware of the Ribera proposal to take water in boats from the desalination plant located in Sagunt to Catalonia to fight the drought, so he hopes to address the measure during the meeting.
