Ciudadanos reaffirms its plan to change its headquarters and move to the center of Madrid

MADRID, 11 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ciudadanos has reaffirmed its plans to leave the building that houses its national headquarters on Calle de Alcalá in Madrid, which it has occupied since the end of 2015, and settle in the center of the capital, although it has not yet found a new location.

The 'orange' party saw its delicate situation worsen after the municipal and regional elections of 28M, which have meant the loss of 80% of its 2019 councilors and their disappearance in the regional parliaments in contention and in significant squares, such as the City Council of Madrid.

The shock led the Citizens' Executive to decide not to run in the general elections on July 23, but, far from dissolving, the leadership is committed to starting a "hibernation" process to carry out a "rearmament" that allows them to survive and run for future elections.

And in this phase of 'rearming', the plan to leave the Alcalá headquarters, which was announced in April by the Ciudadanos leadership, has been confirmed. The building is located at number 253 of the aforementioned street, near the Plaza de las Ventas, but on the other side of the M-30 ring road. The party pays rent for the five floors of the building, which belongs to the insurance company Caser.

As party sources confirm to Europa Press, the idea of looking for a new, more central headquarters in a pedestrian area to avoid barriers and better connect with people is maintained. Of course, they have not yet signed any place and they do not have a defined move-in date either.

Ciudadanos, who denies economic reasons for changing its headquarters, has decided that it is looking for offices for rent and rules out the purchase. The 'orange' formation spent a total of 931,825 euros in 2022 to pay for its headquarters throughout the national territory, according to data on its website.

The party has received nearly three million euros a year in State subsidies, which are distributed based on representation in Congress, but after July 23 it will disappear from the distribution.
