Casa Real distributes 20 unpublished images of Princess Leonor on the occasion of her 18th birthday

It will be next Tuesday, October 31, when Princess Leonor reaches the age of majority and swears in the Constitution before the Cortes Generales as heir to the throne. A historic date that the Royal Family wanted to celebrate in advance by disseminating 20 unpublished and very special images that summarize the 18 years of life of the eldest daughter of Kings Felipe and Letizia.

The first of the photographs shows the moment in which Leonor was presented by her parents - then princes - upon her arrival at the Zarzuela palace after her birth at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid on October 31, 2005. A beautiful and very calm that ensured monarchical continuity and filled his parents with happiness.

When the heiress was one and a half years old, on April 29, 2007, her sister Sofía came into the world, who would soon become her confidant, best friend and great support. The second snapshot corresponds to this moment, in which Leonor, a smiling doll with blonde curls dressed in red, poses naturally in front of the cameras shortly after meeting the new member of the family.

The third reflects the beginning of the heiress' 'school' life at the Royal Guard Children's School. Happy, and dressed in a light blue babi uniform and sports shoes, Leonor began this new stage of her short life at the age of two - in September 2007.

Almost a five-year jump until the next snapshot, taken in Zarzuela when the Royal Family received the National Soccer Team after becoming the champion of the 2012 Euro Cup. Leonor and Sofía, dressed in the La Roja shirt and without losing detail to the cup, became the great protagonists of the day.

In 2014, at the age of 8, the Princess of Asturias attended her first military event with her parents and sister, the 25th anniversary of the XLI promotion of lieutenants of the General Air Academy of San Javier, Murcia, in which she showed curious and attentive to all the details, aware that in the future - which has already arrived - she would begin her military training.

The following photograph represents another key moment in Leonor's institutional life, when on January 30, 2018 she received - before the proud gaze of Queen Letizia - the Golden Fleece from the hands of King Felipe on the occasion of the monarch's 50th birthday.

In such a special album, an image of the Armed Forces parade could not be missing, and the one chosen is from October 12, 2019 - about to celebrate her 14th birthday - when Leonor, with more and more institutional presence, exchanged a knowing look with his father that Casa Real has now wanted to remember on the occasion of his coming of age.

Just a few days later, Leonor gave her first speech at the Princess of Asturias awards. Nervous but showing signs of her preparation and fortitude, the heiress put the Campoamor theater on its feet while the Kings and her sister Sofia applauded her proudly.

Nor is this tour of the Princess's life missing a memory of one of the most complicated years we remember, 2020, marked by the Covid pandemic. With a mask and a solemn gesture, Leonor presided with her parents and her sister at a state tribute to the victims of the Coronavirus.

A year later, in 2021, the Princess of Asturias and her sister starred together in their first solo act, planting a tree in the mountains of Madrid together with other young people to show their commitment to the environment and sustainability.

In the summer of 2022, Leonor and Sofía traveled to London to support the Women's Soccer Team, presiding over their first event abroad at the age of 16 without the company of their parents.

A few months ago, last May, the Princess of Asturias graduated from the UWC Atlantic College in Wales after having studied the two International Baccalaureate courses. Next to her on such a special day, the Kings and Infanta Sofía, with whom Leonor starred in a historic photo session in which she dazzled in a pink coat-type dress.

The following two snapshots correspond to this summer, during their traditional vacation in Mallorca, captured during the visit of the Royal Family to the Alfàbia Gardens in the Sierra de Tramontana. In the first one she looks smiling at the camera, and in the next one she is the one who acts as exceptional photographer for her father and her sister, whom she photographed in a corner.

As it could not be otherwise, this unpublished album also represents the beginning of Princess Leonor's military training with an image of the day she entered the General Academy of Zaragoza, on August 17. Specifically, one of them in which Queen Letizia affectionately grabs her by the waist moments before saying an emotional goodbye to this decisive stage on the young woman's path to the throne.

And the last image also features the Princess of Asturias and the Queen, and was taken a few days ago, during the visit of the Royal Family to the Asturian parishes of Arroes, Peón and Candanal, in Villaviciosa, to present the award. to the Exemplary Town 2023. A snapshot in which Doña Letizia tries on some earrings - which she would later buy - at a market while Leonor, smiling, holds a small mirror so that her mother could see how the jewelry looked on her.
