Biden insists that he wants to run for the 2024 elections, without yet specifying the date of his candidacy

MADRID, 10 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, has assured again this Monday that he wants to stand in the 2024 presidential elections with the intention of occupying the Oval Office for a second term, although he has not specified the date of the announcement of his candidacy.

"I plan to run, but we are not yet ready to announce it (officially)," he told host Al Roker in an interview with his wife Jill Biden during the Today program, broadcast on NBC News.

The tenant of the White House already assured said chain in February that he would run for the elections, although at that time he did not confirm the date either. Among the possible delay of the announcement, it is considered that within the Democratic Party there are critical voices regarding his age, thus urging that younger profiles be sought for the elections.

Biden, who is 80 years old, became the oldest person to assume power in the United States in 2020 and has previously indicated that he can maintain the same demand in his position, citing the regular trips he makes both nationally as internationally.

Tradition establishes that whoever sits in the Oval Office does so for eight years, or at least aspires to do so, so the fact that the president resigned 'motu proprio' to re-election would be a milestone in American politics and could to some extent mark the path of alternative Democratic candidates.
