Biden announces that the US will launch humanitarian aid packages on Gaza

MADRID, 1 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, announced this Friday that Washington will join Jordan in launching humanitarian aid packages for the population of the Gaza Strip, where more than 30,200 people have already died due to the Israeli offensive on the Palestinian enclave.

"In the coming days, we will join our friends in Jordan and others to carry out airdrops of food and additional supplies," he explained during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, adding that the aid sent to Gaza " is not sufficient".

"People are so desperate that innocent people have been trapped in a terrible war without being able to feed their families and the response was seen when they tried to get help," he said, adding that the United States "can do more and will do more."

Biden has highlighted that Washington will ask Israel to facilitate the entry of more trucks and more routes "so that more and more people receive the help they need." Thus, he has also raised the possibility of opening a maritime corridor.

"We are trying to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas: on the release of the hostages and the immediate ceasefire in Gaza for at least the next six weeks, and to allow for increased aid to all of Gaza, not just in the south," he noted.

His words come after the Gazan authorities denounced a "massacre" by the Israeli Army, which had attacked civilians crowding next to a convoy, resulting in 115 deaths. For its part, the Palestinian Authority condemned the "atrocious massacre" and stressed that "it is an integral part of the genocidal war by the occupation government."

The Israeli Army, on the other hand, attributed most of the victims to a stampede, limiting the number of people who were shot dead by its own troops to around ten. They also published a video that shows the crowding of people next to vehicles in the midst of a very serious humanitarian crisis in the enclave, especially in its northern area.
