At least 296 dead and 153 injured by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Morocco

MADRID, 9 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 on the Richter scale shook several cities in Morocco this Friday night, the Moroccan portal Yabiladi reported.

The tremor has been felt from the city of Marrakech to the capital, Rabat, according to this same media, which has described the phenomenon as "violent."

The epicenter would be between Marrakech and Agadir, giving rise to widespread tremors in Safi, Essaouira, Casablanca, Rabat, Salé, Kénitra, Fez and Meknes, among others, Yabiladi specified.

For its part, the Spanish National Geographic Institute (IGN) has reported on its website a second earthquake of a smaller magnitude, 4.8 on the Richter scale, in the city of Berrechid.
