Artur Mas asks Puigdemont not to do the temerity of going to new elections

BARCELONA, July 31. (EUROPEAN PRESS) -

The former president of the Generalitat Artur Mas has asked the former president and MEP for Junts, Carles Puigdemont, to be "more demanding than intransigent" in the negotiation with the PSOE to invest the acting president and socialist candidate for the Presidency, Pedro Sánchez.

"There is no need to fear electoral repetition, because otherwise you lose strength in the negotiation, but neither should you be rash enough to go to new elections," he argued in an interview on Monday with 'Catalunya Ràdio' collected by Europa Press.

He has pointed out that the "ultimate responsibility" for the negotiation does not fall on Junts, nor on ERC, and that the Socialists --literally-- are the ones who have to take the initiative and become aware of the difficulty.

He has also insisted on resuming a joint strategy in the independence movement, and recalled that six or seven years ago "there was a joint strategy of the pro-sovereignty parties, except the CUP."

The former president has explained that he has exchanged messages with Puigdemont, although they have yet to meet in person: "When we have to talk about something serious, I take a plane and go to see him," he said, alluding to the Pegasus case that -- in his words-- the mobile phone is not the best way to communicate.
