Armengol affirms that the support for the progressive majority of the Table of Congress marks a path for the investiture

It promises to speak with "all groups" to guarantee the use of the co-official languages "as soon as possible"

MADRID, 18 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Congress, the socialist Francina Armengol, pointed out this Friday that the "great majority" that has allowed for this legislature a progressive Board in the Lower House "undoubtedly marks a path" for the investiture.

"It is clear that yesterday there was a large majority that approved a Table with a progressive majority." "And that already marks, without a doubt, a path," he said in an interview on TVE, collected by Europa Press, after yesterday the PSOE became the President of Congress with an absolute majority in the first vote thanks to the support of Sumar, ERC , Junts, Bildu, PNV and BNG.

Armengol, who is meeting this morning with King Felipe VI to inform him of the constitution of the Congress, has recalled, however, that it is up to the monarch to meet with the different groups and propose a candidate for the investiture that she will later endorse.

On the other hand, he has assured that he will work to guarantee the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician in the Lower House "as soon as possible" and has shown his "willingness" to speak with "all groups" on this issue.

"I will turn to make this a reality as soon as possible, but I also have to have the space to make dialogue possible, and that is my will, to meet and speak with all the parliamentary groups," he reported.

Armengol has stressed the need to "seek agreements" and start working to establish, "as quickly as possible", the formulas so that "the use of all languages is a reality in Congress." "And therefore, to guarantee those linguistic rights of all Spanish citizens", something that he "enriches" and is a "very important advance", he has added.

He has defended that the Congress has to represent "the real Spain" and one of its greatest assets is its "diversity and linguistic richness". Thus, he has pointed out that "it is logical that the Congress of Deputies resembles what Spain is", where various languages are spoken in different territories, he has influenced.

It should be remembered that Armengol took office for the first time yesterday announcing that he will allow the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician, one of the conditions that pro-independence formations such as ERC and Junts had put in place to support his election. In addition, he thanked his lordships in the three co-official languages and clearly explained his commitment to the announcement that he will allow its use from the very constitutive session.

Regarding the constitutive session, Armengol has highlighted that it was calm, within "democratic normality", and reflected the results of July 23, that is, a "complex" Chamber but rich in diversity and plurality, in his words.

"The greatness of politics is being able to dialogue, listen to each other, respect each other, understand each other and seek solutions. Obviously, there are antagonistic positions, ideologically speaking, but there are also issues that have to be of State consensus", he pointed out. , citing among them the fight against gender violence.
