Almeida commits in his inauguration to "face the housing challenge" so that Madrid residents have access to it

MADRID, 17 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has promised this Saturday, after being sworn in as councilor of the capital, to "face the challenge of housing" so that the people of Madrid "can access" one.

"Face with determination the challenge that this city faces in terms of housing, bringing to an end in these four years all the initiatives undertaken in the four previous years to effectively guarantee, in compliance with the constitutional mandate, that all we can access a home in this city", he stated in his investiture speech upon being proclaimed mayor of the city of Madrid with an absolute majority.

In the roadmap that he has outlined for his new mandate, there is "the social cohesion of the people of Madrid", consolidating the territorial rebalancing between the 21 districts and the 131 neighbourhoods, "culminating the enormous effort of urban transformation carried out during the last four years", "continue advancing in policies that promote environmental sustainability in an effective and fair manner".

It has also marked on its map "continue the improvements undertaken during these four years in digitalization and in the improvement of the processing of procedures, increase the quality of life in neighborhoods."

"I will demand all this from the first day, that is, from today. I commit myself to this today before this Corporation and before the people of Madrid represented by it by these 57 councillors", he pointed out, adding that he extends his hand "to all municipal groups, the Más Madrid municipal group, the Socialist municipal group and the Vox municipal group".

And it is that, he has made it clear that the absolute majority obtained will not prevent him from "continuing in the line of dialogue and also trying to reach the great agreements that benefit all the people of Madrid." "That is why I call on all the groups represented in this plenary session so that we can work together to address the great challenges that this city faces," he stressed.

Almeida began his speech by acknowledging the "honor derived from the trust obtained by the people of Madrid in the elections of May 28", and recalled that Madrid is the city where he was born and grew up, which has given him his "language, faith, the way of understanding life". "The city where I grew up and ultimately the one that has forged me into the person I am today", he pointed out.

"Therefore, I assume this responsibility with a feeling of deep gratitude towards all the people of Madrid, those who have voted for us and those who have not voted for us, aware of the enormous debt that I contract with them for the rest of my life", he pointed out to continuation.

The recently proclaimed first mayor recalled his "magnificent 15", the fifteen mayors of the PP Municipal Group from the past term, who faced "a very hard, very complicated job, with enormous difficulties, but which was carried out like the Madrileños have endorsed, and it is that never so few did so much for this city during four years".

"We were 15 and now we are 29. We have doubled the number of councilors and therefore we have to double the work and effort and double the result that this city has to have after four years. Because the trust they have placed in us is enormous demonstrated, the responsibility that we have adopted as a consequence of the electoral result is even greater", he pointed out.

In addition, he has had words for Madrid as the capital of Spain, and has indicated that "it will once again live up to the honor and responsibility that being the capital of Spain entails".

"Because that is what Spain is all about, after all. For Spain, Madrid will continue to be the best symbol of our Constitution, it will continue to be the best symbol of the loyalty and unity of Spain, both values embodied in His Majesty the King Felipe VI", he pointed out.

In the same way, he stressed that "the 1978 Constitution is the highest instrument that the Spaniards have given themselves to guarantee the best stage of peace and prosperity." "In this high commitment I promise to work and dedicate my best efforts during the next four years with my colleagues from the Popular municipal Group", he remarked.

Martínez-Almeida has had a memory for his parents, Rafael and Ángela, now deceased. He is sure that right now they are looking at him as well as his brothers, Casilda, Alfonso, Ángela, Mayi and Rafael. "I know that I speak for all of them when I tell you that we will never have a higher ideal than living up to everything you taught us; with words, but above all with your example", he has expressed.

"I recognize that, when it comes to assuming this responsibility, I don't have a more valuable resource than the values my parents instilled in me. That's how it has been in bad times and in good times in the past term. That's how it will be in the four years that begin. And so it will always be", he has specified.
