The Barcelonan joins the four players already announced: Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreño, Roberto Bautista and Marcel Granollers

MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The tennis player Albert Ramos will be the fifth member of the Spanish team that will play the Final 8 of the Davis Cup by Rakuten 2022 at the Palacio de los Deportes Martín Carpena in Malaga, from November 22 to 27, announced the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation ( RFET) in a statement.

The 34-year-old player from Barcelona thus joins the four players announced by the Spanish captain, Sergi Bruguera, on October 24, Carlos Alcaraz, Pablo Carreño, Roberto Bautista and Marcel Granollers.

Albert Ramos, number 39 in the world, has won his fourth ATP title this year in Córdoba (Argentina), in addition to being a semifinalist in three other tournaments, Estoril, Gstaad and Kitzbühel.

Ramos was already called up in the group stage played in Valencia last September in which Spain finished first in Group B. His rival in the quarterfinals in Malaga will be Croatia, second in Group A played in Bologna.

Croatia will go to Malaga with the 'Grand Slam' winner Marin Cilic, number 17 in the world, the winner this year of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 Borna Coric, number 26 in the ATP, and one of the best doubles pairs in the world made up of Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic.

The last precedent between Spain and Croatia was already with the new format in the 2019 group stage played in Madrid, with Spain winning 3-0 in the group stage before winning their sixth 'Silver Salad Bowl'.

Croatia have played three of the last five Davis Cup finals. After winning his first title in 2005, he repeated success in 2018 in the last final played in the traditional home-away format. It was also a finalist in 2016 and 2021.

The tie between Spaniards and Croatians will be played on November 23, starting at 4:00 p.m., at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace, the sole venue for the competition. The winner will be measured in the semifinals against the winner of the duel between the Netherlands and Australia.

The other two quarterfinal qualifiers of this Final 8 will pit Italy against the United States, and Germany against Canada.
