Albares celebrates the evacuation of tourists from Ethiopia but remembers that they were in an inadvisable area

MADRID, 14 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has congratulated himself on the evacuation and repatriation of a group of Spanish tourists who found themselves trapped in Ethiopia in a confrontation between the Army and rebel militias, but he did recall that the Ministry had been advising against travel to that area.

In statements in Congress, where he processed his accreditation as a socialist deputy for Madrid, Albares celebrated the fact that "once again and in difficult circumstances" these tourists have been repatriated, as had been achieved before in Afghanistan or Niger, in circumstances even more complex.

He has also underlined the discretion of the Ministry to ensure the lives of compatriots and, through various contacts, achieve their departure to a safe area so that they can then return to Spain.

But, that yes, and although he believes that "it doesn't matter" now, the minister has not avoided remembering that "these people were in an area that for many months Foreign Affairs advised against traveling to that region."

Lastly, he expressed his support for the stability of Ethiopia, a country that he considers "fundamental" for Africa, and has promised to do "everything possible" to make the peace process in the country a solid reality: "It is good for Ethiopia and for the horn of Africa".
