'Al Hilm', the official ball of the last four matches of the World Cup in Qatar

MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The sportswear brand adidas has presented this Sunday the 'Al Hilm', the official ball for the semifinals, the match for third place and the final of the World Cup in Qatar 2022, a ball that takes over from the one that until now the official ball of the competition, the 'Al Rihla'.

'Al Hilm', which means 'the dream' in Arabic, presents the latest advances in ball design and the same linked adidas technology that contained 'Al Rihla' -in Arabic, 'the journey'- and that during this World Cup has helped referees make decisions more quickly.

Together with player position data, this innovation provides the VAR team with instant information to optimize decision making. The new technology combines artificial intelligence with data provided by the inertial measurement unit (IMU) located in the center of the ball. As it is linked to the semi-automated system for detecting offside, it allows checking the exact moment in which the ball is played in very tight situations of illegal position.

The director of FIFA's Football Technological Innovation Branch, Johannes Holzmüller, explained that adidas, with the development of ball-linked technology, has made it possible "for the video refereeing team to have a new level of very important information ". "The data provided by the ball opens the door to a new way of understanding and narrating the exceptional plays of this World Cup," he said.

Its design is designed to respect the environment, and its components make it the first ball for the semifinals and the World Cup final made exclusively with water-based inks and glues. The gold background and the subtle triangular motifs are inspired by the deserts that surround the city of Doha, the color of the World Cup trophy and the print of the Qatari flag.

"The glow of 'Al Hilm' will illuminate the power of sport in general and football in particular to unite the world. Millions of people will tune in to the competition from almost every country on the planet, united in their passion for football. We wish the best of luck to all the teams that will participate in the last rounds of the competition, as they will be competing on the biggest stage in football," said Nick Craggs, Managing Director of adidas Soccer Division.
