Air Force planes take off from Khartoum (Sudan) with Spanish, European and Latin American citizens

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, reported this Sunday on the takeoff from the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, of the two Air Force and Space Force planes with Spanish, European and Latin American citizens and diplomats.

"The @EjercitoAire planes have just taken off from Khartoum with our citizens and @EmbEspSudan on board. Other European and Latin American citizens are also traveling. No incidents in the transfer of our convoy," the Foreign Minister posted on his Twitter profile.

Likewise, it has called for a ceasefire and to resume dialogue in Sudan.

Albares already indicated on Friday that the two military planes were "ready" in Djibouti to proceed with the evacuation of the Spaniards who are in Sudan once the conditions for it were given. Likewise, he specified that some 60 Spaniards would be evacuated as well as another twenty people, including European citizens and those of Latin American countries that have requested it.

Although the Ministry has not offered more information, his Mexican counterpart, Marcelo Ebrard, has reported that five Mexicans and two relatives have boarded "safe and sound" on one of the flights organized by Spain, thanking Albares for his support. Likewise, he has pointed out that another Mexican will be evacuated tomorrow with the support of the UN.

The European Union has announced this Sunday the beginning of the evacuation of its delegation in Sudan in the midst of operations to extract citizens and international diplomats in the face of the fighting between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since last week. ).

The High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has declared his gratitude to the French Army, coordinator of the operation from Djibouti, as well as the authorities of this African country.

However, Borrell has made it known that the EU ambassador to Sudan, Aidan O'Hara, will continue to work from the country where he works.
