A detainee in the anti-corruption operation in Venezuela dies in prison

MADRID, 21 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Venezuelan Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, announced this Thursday the death of one of those detained in the framework of the country's anti-corruption operation, identified as Leoner Azuaje Urrea.

Saab has indicated that he has instructed several prosecutors to investigate "the unfortunate suicide of citizen Leoner Azuaje Urrea in his place of confinement."

Likewise, it has indicated that it has ordered the criminal unit of the Public Ministry together with the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (CICPC) to carry out the technical inspection, interviews and autopsies of law.

Azuaje Urrea was arrested this Tuesday, when the prosecutor reported that the number of officials arrested for his alleged involvement in corruption schemes of the state-owned company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) had risen to 80, adding a total of 172 raids.
