664 workers die in work accidents until November, 106 less than a year before

A total of 664 workers died in work accidents in the first eleven months of 2023, 106 less than in the same period of 2022, which in relative terms implies a decrease of 13.8%, according to provisional data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social economy.

Accidents with sick leave decreased by 0.5% until November compared to the same period in 2022, up to a total of 581,524 accidents, of which 502,841 occurred during work hours (-1.8%) and 78,683 accidents occurred 'in itinere' - those that occur on the way from home to work or vice versa -, with a year-on-year increase of 8.3%.

According to provisional data from the Ministry, fatal accidents during work hours fell by 15.6% until November, registering 535 deaths, 99 less than in the same period in 2022, while deaths 'in itinere' fell by 5. .1%, up to a total of 129.

For their part, serious accidents during work hours totaled 3,484 until October, 1.4% less than the previous year, while serious 'in itinere' accidents increased by 3.8%, to 868 accidents.

Minor accidents during work hours fell by 1.8% in the first eleven months of the year, to a total of 498,822, while 'in itinere' accidents classified as minor rose by 8.4%, to 77,686.

The Labor statistics also reveal that of the 664 workers who lost their lives in a work accident until November, 594 were employees (-14.4%) and 70 were self-employed, 7.9% less than in the first eleven months. from last year.

Of the total number of self-employed workers who lost their lives in a work accident, 69 did so at their workplace, the same number compared to the same period in 2022, while one died in an accident 'in itinere', six less than until November of the year. past (-85.7%).

Likewise, according to the Ministry's provisional data, 523,067 accidents without sick leave were reported until November, 0.4% more than in the same period in 2022.
