Zelensky assures that Russia will be investigated for the use of antipersonnel mines

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has assured this Thursday that Russia will be investigated, among other charges, for the use of antipersonnel mines in Ukrainian territory.

"I am sure: this will be one of the charges against Russia for aggression, precisely for terrorism," said the Ukrainian president, after lamenting the death of several police officers who died in Kherson from mines placed by Russian troops.

"This is the form of Russian terror that will have to be counteracted for years to come. Terrorists deliberately try to leave behind as many deadly traps as possible," Zelensky said in his nightly speech since the Russian invasion began on February 24th.

Zelensky has expressed that the use of mines --both land mines and in buildings or automobiles-- is "crueler and meaner" than the use of missiles "because there is no anti-mine system that can destroy at least part of the threat." , referring to air defense equipment.

Thus, the president, who has warned that mining in the country reaches more than 170,000 square kilometers, has had words of gratitude for allied countries that "help Ukraine with demining."

In this sense, he has particularly thanked Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and Slovakia, as well as United24 donors, "who understand how important it is that Ukraine is not left alone with the problem of mined territory."
