Ukraine warns that Russia could now leave part of the population without access to drinking water

MADRID, 14 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmigal, has warned on Monday that the Russian troops, with their management of the Kakhovkaya hydroelectric power station, could deprive a large part of the settlements that are supplied from the Dnipro river from access to drinking water.

As Shmigal has detailed on his official Telegram channel, the Russian Armed Forces, present at the aforementioned plant, have deliberately destroyed and opened the locks of the hydroelectric complex.

Along the same lines, in addition to the shortage of water for the population, Russia would also be generating a "nuclear threat", since the decrease in water levels at the plant could lead to "inadequate operation of the cooling systems of the nuclear plant of Zaporizhia".

"Therefore, the civilized world must not be silent. Ukraine urges by all means available to put pressure on Russia to close the floodgates and restore hydrotechnical structures at the Kakhovkaya hydroelectric power station. Or allow Ukrainian specialists to do it." , Shmigal added.

During the last months of 2022, Russia focused its attacks on Ukraine's electricity and water infrastructure. These armed offensives have left thousands of Ukrainians without access to power, electricity and drinking water.
