Ukraine figures at more than 48,000 open procedures for crimes committed by the Russian military

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ukrainian authorities have estimated at more than 48,000 the number of criminal proceedings opened in relation to crimes committed by the Russian military and "accomplices" since the start of the invasion, unleashed on February 24 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior has indicated in its Telegram account that "since the start of the large-scale invasion by Russia, National Police investigators have opened 48,370 criminal proceedings on acts of crimes committed on Ukrainian territory by members of the Armed Forces of Russia and their accomplices".

Thus, it has detailed that 36,870 of them correspond to "violations of the laws and norms of war", while 9,128 are related to "acts against the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine", included in articles 438 and 110 of the Penal Code of the country.

The ministry has stated that 2,187 procedures have also been opened for "collaborative activities", one hundred for acts of "treason" and 37 for acts of "subversion", in these cases included in articles 111 and 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Russian forces have been accused of committing war crimes in the invasion, which has so far left thousands of civilians dead and millions internally displaced and refugees. The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine stated in September that "war crimes have been committed in Ukraine."
