The Russian and Ukrainian forces will exchange more than 200 prisoners, 107 for each of the two parties, in a new exchange that adds to those carried out in recent months within the armed conflict that broke out in February with the invasion ordered by the Russian president. , Vladimir Putin.

The agreement has been advanced by the head of the pro-Russian administration of Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, who has identified the "majority" of the beneficiaries as military. Of these prisoners, 65 correspond to the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, according to the Interfax news agency.

Despite the escalation of tensions, the parties have periodically agreed to this type of exchange, thanks to which hundreds of people captured during the conflict have been able to regain their freedom. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has demanded on numerous occasions access to detainees, as well as guaranteeing their rights.
