Trump Files Lawsuit to Avoid Appearing Before Committee Investigating Capitol Assault

MADRID, 12 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former US President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the House committee investigating the Capitol storming in an attempt to block the subpoena that would force him to testify before Congress.

This has been reported in a statement by Trump's lawyer, David Warrington, who has assured that the separation of powers prohibits Congress from forcing a president to testify before him, according to the CNN network.

Warrington has argued that after the committee undertook the "unprecedented act" of requiring Trump to appear before Congress in "an effort" to insist on "the political path," the former president would have had no choice but to open a judicial dispute.

As Trump has previously claimed, complying with the House demand would "violate" privilege protections across the executive branch, including revealing conversations he had with Justice Department officials and members of Congress about the election. 2020, the aforementioned chain has reported.

The committee voted mostly on October 13 for the former president to appear under oath for being the key to a "criminal conspiracy" to reverse the results of the November 2020 presidential elections.

The main mission of the committee is to elucidate the role of the former US president and his supporters during those days in which they encouraged to take over Congress to interrupt the process that confirmed his defeat against the current president, Joe Biden, in the 2020 presidential elections.
