They investigate the owner of the house where the capo Matteo Messina lived and the doctor who treated him

MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Italian authorities have searched the house where Cosa Nostra boss Matteo Messina allegedly currently resided, in the name of a person whose identity he had borrowed and who is also under investigation, as well as the doctor who was treating him for cancer in a private clinic in Palermo, in Sicily.

The operation carried out on Monday by the Carabinieri to arrest Messina, a fugitive for 30 years, has given rise to a new phase of the investigations in which security forces and the Prosecutor's Office are focused on collecting the greatest number of evidence possible and follow different leads.

One of them is part of a car key found in Messina's pocket and that he has taken to a house owned by Andrea Bonafede, the name under which the mafia leader was receiving cancer treatment at a clinic and with which he he had created a false identity document.

The real Bonafede is already on the list of suspects of the Palermo Prosecutor's Office, according to the AdnKronos agency. Also included in this list is the doctor Alfonso Tumbarello, responsible for caring for the capo, to determine if any of them committed some type of criminal act.

The head of oncology at the clinic, Vittorio Gebbia, has acknowledged that Messina's condition "is serious" and has stated that the patient at no time did anything that could make the medical team suspicious, according to the newspaper 'La Repubblica'. The Cosa Nostra leader now remains in a L'Aquila jail.

In his house, the authorities have not located weapons, although they have found some luxury items. However, this Tuesday the work continued in search of biological clues or possible hiding places or documents that could support the accusations against Messina and even arrest other criminals.
