The vice president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili has been charged on suspicion of corruption, according to judicial sources

MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The vice president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili has been arrested and charged with charges of belonging to a criminal organization, corruption and money laundering in the framework of the investigation into alleged bribes from Qatar to people who could influence the decision-making of the European Parliament, as reported this Sunday by judicial sources to the Belgian newspaper 'L'Echo'.

According to these sources, Vice President Kaili -- stripped of her powers from the post, but not from the title -- is, according to these sources, one of the four unidentified people who, according to the official statement sent by the Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office, collected by the newspaper, have gone to court on suspicion of "belonging to a criminal organization, money laundering and corruption." Two other people who were detained on Friday have been released.

The office also confirms the search of the address of a second MEP this past Saturday night, in relation to a plot by which "third parties with political and/or strategic positions within the European Parliament received large sums of money or were offered large gifts to influence the decisions of the European Parliament".

The Prosecutor's Office also confirms the search carried out on Saturday night at the home of a MEP, whose name is also not mentioned, after 'Le Soir' reported, citing sources of the investigation, of a police intervention in the house of the Socialist deputy to the PE Marc Tarabella.
