The Venezuelan opposition calls for the dismissal of Juan Guaidó as "interim president" for failing to meet objectives

MADRID, 22 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The main Venezuelan opposition parties have called this Wednesday in a statement for the cessation of the "interim government" of opposition leader Juan Guaidó, after considering that almost four years after his proclamation he has not met the expected objectives.

The leader of the Primero Justicia party, Alfonzo Marquina, made the statement at a press conference speaking on behalf of 69 (of the 112) opposition deputies who supported Guaidó's proclamation in 2019. These belong to the main opposition parties: Democratic Action (AD), First Justice (PJ), A New Time (UNT) and Movement for Venezuela (MPV).

"The interim government is not the raison d'être of the democratic struggle, it was a necessary instrument at the time, but today we are appointing a commission for the protection of all assets", Marquina clarified, highlighting the duty of all to "assume responsibilities", since "the figure of the internal government does not appear to achieve the objectives in Venezuela", according to what the Globovisión network has collected.

The opposition request also comes one day before the meeting of the National Assembly, elected at the end of 2015 and considered the counterweight to the government led by Nicolás Maduro, and where the final resolution regarding the replacement of the interim leader is expected.

Guaidó, who came to be recognized by more than fifty countries as "interim president" in 2019 by proclaiming himself with such a distinction after not recognizing the results of the 2018 presidential elections, has seen how his political weight abroad has been dwindling every year, as well as his leadership within the internal opposition to the government of the president, Nicolás Maduro.
