The 'tory' leader in the Commons rejects a proposal by Johnson to withdraw her candidacy for British prime minister

MADRID, 23 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The parliamentary leader of the British Conservative Party in the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, has rejected a proposal by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to withdraw from the race for the head of the country's Government, according to sources close to the deputy.

Mordaunt made his candidacy official on Friday to succeed Liz Truss as head of the party and the country, although his expectations have been seriously compromised since this Sunday, when former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak also announced that he is running for the role big favorite for victory.

However, Mordaunt has rejected not only Johnson's proposal to leave, but also his support for the former prime minister in the event that in the next few hours he fails to obtain from his deputies the hundred guarantees necessary to ratify his contest, these report sources close to the Sky chain.

According to sources from 'The Times', Johnson has assured his backers that he is the only candidate "with a democratic mandate" and that his intention, to come back to power, "is to form a government that encompasses ' far and wide'".

The former prime minister has also contacted organizing groups of supporters who he has asked to "pick up the phones and get down to work" to promote a candidacy in which he will present himself as a symbol of "stability" .

Since the campaign of the former prime minister, it has been ensured that he has the hundred guarantees necessary to present himself, but party sources have questioned the figure. The guarantees must be submitted this Monday before 2:00 p.m.
