The son of Mexican drug trafficker 'El Chapo' Guzmán is arrested in Sinaloa

Ovidio Guzmán, alias 'El Ratón', son of the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, drug trafficker Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, was arrested this Thursday in the state of Sinaloa during an operation by Mexican federal forces.

The Mexican authorities have ensured his transfer to a maximum security prison and he would already be in the facilities of military camp 1 in Mexico City, as reported by the newspaper 'El Universal'.

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, assured this Thursday at a press conference that an operation has been active since dawn, although he has avoided giving more details. For its part, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection will organize a press conference to offer more details about the arrest of 'El Ratón'.

The Army has mobilized its troops in Sinaloa in the face of the disturbances that the region is registering. The Secretary of Public Security of the State of Sinaloa, Cristóbal Castañeda, has reported the burning of vehicles, as reported by the newspaper 'Milenio'.

In fact, the Culiacán International Airport has had to close from 8:30 am (local time) until 10 pm due to the security situation in the area. The company Aeroméxico has reported that one of its planes has been shot at the airport.

The Secretary of Public Security of the State of Sinaloa has alerted the population to avoid taking to the streets in the face of possible riots. Classes have been suspended and public services have been limited.

'El Ratón', a member of the Sinaloa cartel, was already arrested in the city of Culiacán, in the northwest of the country, although he was later released in an attempt to "pacify" the chaos caused by his arrest, since armed groups led to carried out "violent actions" in various parts of the city.
