The Russian ambassador to the US assures that leaving START was "the only correct option"

MADRID, 28 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoli Antonov, has assured that Russia's decision to suspend its participation in the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) was "the only correct option under the circumstances."

Despite having broken with the treaty, Antonov has stressed that Russia continues to "comply with the stipulated quantitative restrictions," according to statements to the official TASS news agency.

To return to the agreement, he added, "the United States must reconsider its aggressive anti-Russian policy." "Our countries stood shoulder to shoulder, saving humanity from Nazism. This is what local officials should be actively thinking about, not how to quickly break into our nuclear facilities," she added.

This Monday, the US authorities warned that the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin to suspend his participation in START has not yet been officially notified.

Putin announced last Tuesday the suspension of the nuclear weapons treaty signed with Washington, qualifying that it is not an "abandonment" of the agreement and alleging that the country "must be prepared to carry out nuclear tests if the United States carries them out first". .
