The protests also paralyze the Cuzco airport and the trains to Machu Picchu

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The international airport of Cuzco and the trains that connect this town with the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu have suspended their activity due to the protests registered in the last hours against the government of the new president, Dina Boluarte.

Lima Airport Partners (LAP) has reported that the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport will be closed until at least 8:40 p.m. (local time), while the Alfredo Rodríguez Ballón International Airport in Arequipa will maintain the suspension that began on Monday "due to the impact that infrastructure has suffered" after the protests.

The Peruvian Corporation of Airports and Commercial Aviation (Corpac) had already requested the deployment of security forces at the Cuzco airport "in the face of possible criminal acts that threaten the airport infrastructure, navigation, control and surveillance systems necessary for operations airlines at said airport headquarters", according to the RPP radio station.

On the other hand, the company PerúRail has confirmed the stoppage of the trains that connect with Machu Picchu, one of the main tourist attractions in Peru, due to the mobilizations. The measure "seeks to prioritize the safety of passengers and workers," the company explained in a statement.
