The Prosecutor's Office of Peru summons Dina Boluarte to testify for the deaths in the protests

MADRID, 4 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, has been summoned this Friday by the Prosecutor's Office to testify about the deaths registered in the protests against her, all this in the midst of the investigation opened for the alleged commission by the Government of crimes of genocide and qualified homicide.

Next Tuesday, March 7, the Peruvian president must go to the headquarters of the Public Ministry in Lima to be consulted by those who died during the riots in the cities of Ayachucho and Puno, as well as in other regions of southern Peru, as reported in a statement the Legal Defense Institute (IDL) and has collected 'La República'.

The mediating body in national courts on cases of violation of Human Rights has detailed that Boluarte must attend in person and not by remote connection, as he did on previous occasions on January 30 and February 23.

This time, according to IDL lawyers Andy Carrión and Carlos Cao, the institutional silence on the questions formulated by the Prosecutor's Office --as in the two previous times-- could be considered "as a refusal" or even as failure to attend the summons.

Peru is plunged into a deep political crisis after the removal of former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, who announced on December 7 the dissolution of the Andean Parliament and the establishment of an emergency government.

After the arrest of the former president, tens of thousands of people have come out to protest in various parts of the country to demand the resignation of Boluarte, the dissolution of Congress and the urgent call for presidential elections. More than 60 people have lost their lives in the riots between protesters and security forces.
