The president of the Congress of Peru urges to "depose any measure of violence" in the protests

MADRID, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The president of the Peruvian Congress, José Williams Zapata, has urged this Wednesday to "drop any measure of violence" during the protests called for this week, after the protesters resumed the marches to demand the holding of new elections.

Williams Zapata has maintained, in turn, that "the recovery" of the country, "after a period of corruption and inefficiency in the Government, requires a climate of peace and governability", as indicated through his profile on the network social Twitter.

These statements coincide with the words of the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, who hours before called for peace and unity among Peruvians.

Likewise, Boluarte has remarked that there will be no impunity for the deaths registered in the December demonstrations, reports the Andina news agency.

The citizen protests that began after the impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo -- which stopped as a result of Christmas -- have so far resulted in at least 27 deaths and numerous injuries.

In the midst of the protests, the Prime Minister of Peru, Alberto Otárola, has announced that in the next few hours they will announce the successor to the resigned head of Peru's National Intelligence Directorate (DINI), General Juan Carlos Liendo O'Connor. .
