The Portuguese socialists face their second motion of no confidence this Thursday after their absolute majority

MADRID, 3 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The socialist government of the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, faces his second motion of no confidence this Thursday since he achieved an absolute majority in the elections on March 30, 2022.

This last initiative has been presented at the request of Iniciativa Liberal (IL), which, however, together with the Bloque de Izquierda (BE), has rejected that it be debated and voted on this Thursday, as had been urgently demanded by the main opposition force, the Social Democratic Party, reports 'Diario de Noticias'.

The spokesperson for the conference of leaders, the socialist Maria de Luz Rosinha, explained that it has not yet been decided who will be in charge of defending the government's position, since "it is not mandatory that it be the prime minister."

The proposal was presented last Thursday hours after the resignation of the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, became known, the third in government during the last week of December and the tenth since the Socialists achieved that absolute majority last month of March.

This motion presented by IL, the fourth force in the Assembly with eight seats, is the second that Costa is facing after the one launched in June by the far-right of Chega!. Like that one, the socialists will assert their parliamentary dominance to overthrow this one as well.
