The Peruvian Defense Minister calls for the establishment of humanitarian aid corridors in various regions of the country

MADRID, 22 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Peruvian Defense Minister, Jorge Chávez, has made an appeal this Sunday to establish humanitarian aid corridors in various regions of the country that have been affected by roadblocks, following protests against the government of President Dina Boluarte.

The head of Defense has specified that these corridors will have the objective of supplying basic necessities to the population and thus avoiding a crisis of food or medicine shortages.

"This is an articulated and joint work due to the interruption of roads that is taking place in Madre de Dios, and it is necessary to establish a humanitarian aid corridor to satisfy the demands of the population," Chávez confirmed.

In addition to the Peruvian department of Madre de Dios, the minister has stressed the need for them to formalize these corridors in Puerto Maldonado, capital of the aforementioned region, as well as in Puno, Cusco and Arequipa, cities whose roads have been blocked by protests.

These statements have taken place before the shipment of more than 13 tons of goods, including supplies for water treatment, food and medicine, by the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) destined for the Madre de Dios region.

The head of the Defense portfolio has confirmed that this operation, carried out jointly with the ministries of Housing, Health and Women, will guarantee "the health of our nation", at the same time that he has appealed for dialogue as the only way possible to reach an agreement with the protesters.

"The only solution is dialogue, in an atmosphere of peace for the well-being of each of our populations and citizens," Chávez affirmed, as reported by the Peruvian news agency Andina.
