The Minister of Education of Peru resigns due to the death of protesters

MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Education of Peru, Patricia Correa, presented her irrevocable resignation this Friday in response to the death of civilian protesters at the hands of the Police in the context of violent protests in favor of former President Pedro Castillo.

"Our country is facing a political crisis of great dimensions that demands democratic convictions, respect for order and at the same time for the physical integrity and life of each Peruvian citizen, which unfortunately have been violated in the last few hours," Correa said in a release.

Correa has taken advantage of the letter to thank the trust placed in her and has expressed her desire that the Government and the president, Dina Boluarte, make the best decisions for the good of the country.

Likewise, on his Twitter profile - where he shared the statement - Correa has asserted that "the death of compatriots has no justification" and has reproached the State forces for the use of "disproportionate and death-generating" violence. .

The Peruvian authorities have raised to 20 the number of dead citizens in the framework of the protests in support of Castillo and as a result of which the Government decreed this week a state of emergency at the national level for 30 days.

Supporters of the former president took to the streets since last week to protest his dismissal and arrest for having tried to dissolve Parliament and declare an emergency government. They also require Boluarte to call new general elections.
