The Justice of Peru formalizes the process against Pedro Castillo for rebellion

MADRID, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation of Peru has approved this Tuesday at the last minute the formalization of the process against the former president of Peru Pedro Castillo for the alleged commission of a crime of rebellion.

The decision, announced by Judge Juan Carlos Checkley in statements collected by 'El Comercio', formalizes the investigation against the former president and his former Prime Minister Aníbal Torres, thus assuming jurisdiction over the case, which until now was in charge of the Peruvian Attorney General's Office.

Likewise, with the officialization of the case, the Public Ministry may request the preventive detention of Castillo, whose preliminary detention ends this Wednesday, December 14, when he could be released.

The State Attorney General, Patricia Benavides, has accused the former president of the alleged crimes of rebellion, conspiracy, abuse of authority and disturbance of public tranquility. While Torres is attributed the alleged crimes of rebellion and conspiracy as a co-author.

Pedro Castillo is in custody after he announced the dissolution of Congress and the establishment of an emergency government on December 7. His decree, which did not receive any support, ended up leading Parliament to support a motion of censure against him and his subsequent arrest by the country's Police.
