The governor of Brasilia apologizes to Lula for security failures

MADRID, 9 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The governor of the Federal District of Sao Paulo, Ibaneis Rocha --a political ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro-- has apologized for the "unacceptable" situation in which supporters of the former president have taken over the headquarters of the three main state powers.

Rocha has published a video on social networks addressed to the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in which he refers to the assailants as "vandals" and "terrorists".

"I would first like to address President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to apologize for what has happened today in our city, the president of the Federal Supreme Court, my dear friend Arthur Lira -president of the Chamber of Deputies-, my friend Rodrigo Pacheco --president of the Senate--", has raised Rocha. "What has happened is simply unacceptable," he said.

Rocha recalled his recent contacts with the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, with whom he discussed "all that movement that was coming to the Federal District." "We did not realize at any time that these demonstrations would take the proportions they did," he excused himself.

For Rocha, the assailants "are true vandals, true terrorists whom I will fight so that they are punished."

The recording has been published after Lula decreed federal intervention in Brasilia assuming the security powers that until then corresponded to Rocha. The federal responsible as controller is Ricardo Garcia Cappelli, executive secretary of the Ministry of Justice.
