Through a press conference, the head of Peruvian diplomacy, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, reported that the decision is based on international obligations and in coordination with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

However, the Executive of Peru has informed the Government of Mexico that Lilia Paredes is immersed in an investigation for her alleged involvement in a crime of criminal organization, for which reason it reserves the right to request her extradition in the future, if this was sentenced.

Likewise, the Government of Peru has affirmed that it will defend "with the greatest firmness the right that assists the State", to fight corruption and to ensure that "those responsible are tried with the guarantees of due process to avoid impunity".

The former Peruvian first lady will take a flight to Mexico with her children this Wednesday morning, according to what sources close to Lilia Paredes have told 'La República'.

Specifically, the wife of the former president of Pedro Castillo will take an Aeroméxico airline flight scheduled for 2:40 p.m. (local time), and will arrive in Mexico City at 6:26 a.m. Mexican time.

Meanwhile, the trip takes place after the head of Mexican diplomacy, Marcelo Ebrard, confirmed on Tuesday that Paredes and his two children, who are minors, had received political asylum since they were staying at the Mexican Embassy in Lima. .

"The asylum has already been granted because they are in Mexican territory, that is, they are in our Embassy (...) It is an independent sovereign decision of Mexico," the person in charge of Mexican diplomacy has defended, according to 'El Universal'.

Already on Monday, the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, affirmed that his country has "open doors" for Pedro Castillo, for his family and for "all those who feel harassed and persecuted" in Peru.
