The Government of Peru dismisses all the prefects appointed by Castillo for inciting the mobilizations against the president

MADRID, 12 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Defense of Peru, Alberto Otárola, has confirmed this Monday the dismissal of all the prefects appointed by former President Pedro Castillo after verifying that some of them have fueled the demonstrations against the president, Dina Boluarte.

Otárola has announced that this decision was made during an extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday and convened after the Executive detected that a group of prefects was contributing to the resurgence of protests in various parts of the country.

"We have found an element that has contributed to the destabilization of the regions and local representations where these prefects operate," the minister said before the microphones of the Peruvian radio station RPP.

Likewise, the person in charge of the Defense portfolio has stressed that the Andean Executive not only demands integrity and honesty from its officials, but also wants employees who "do not violate the rule of law."

Last Wednesday, former President Castillo announced the dissolution of Parliament and decreed an emergency government. However, the president ended up dismissed by Congress and arrested by the Prosecutor's Office.

After this, some regions of the country have registered mobilizations against the arrest of Castillo and the appointment of Dina Boluarte as president. In Andahuyalas, Apurímac region, the death of two protesters, one of them a minor, has been confirmed.
