The Government of Peru decrees a curfew in 15 provinces after the increase in tensions due to the protests

MADRID, 16 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Peru has decreed this Thursday a curfew in 15 provinces of the country for at least five days, all this one day after the entry into force of the state of emergency announced to alleviate the protests that are succumbing throughout the country.

"Declare for a period of five calendar days, the mandatory social immobilization of all people in their homes, within the framework of the State of Emergency at the national level declared by Supreme Decree", wields the document, signed by the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte.

Specifically, the measure affects eight departments, including Arequipa, La Libertad, Ica, Apurímac, Cusco, Puno, Huancavelica and Ayacucho.

The curfew hours vary by province, although in all cases it ends at 4:00 a.m. In some provinces, such as Andahuaylas or Chincheros, both in Apurímac, the measure begins at 6:00 p.m. In the provinces of other departments, such as Arequipa or Cusco, the curfew begins at 8:00 p.m.

The Prime Minister of Peru, Pedro Angulo, clarified in an interview on Wednesday with the RPP radio station that the curfew "will only be situational and will be applied in specific cases."

"The curfew is going to be situational, it is circumscribed where necessary. For example, if there were an airport that is taken over, a curfew will definitely be declared there and to recover it and put it at the service of the public, that will mean that it will enter the Army," said Angulo.
