The German Armed Forces reinforce the training of their troops in the face of conspiracy theories

COBLENZA (GERMANIA), 18 Feb. (DPA/EP) -

The German Armed Forces have reinforced the training of their troops on conspiracy theories and propaganda actions, in view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the existence of plans by far-right groups to carry out attacks in the country, including one on an attempted coup.

"Great dangers can emanate from conspiracy theories and misinformation, for example from Russia," the commander of the Army's Koblenz Internal Leadership Center, General Markus Kurczyk, told the German news agency DPA.

"We have to get into these issues. We have to sensitize the soldiers here. We see that they too are at risk of being trapped in bubbles of false information on the Internet," he stated, before stressing that with training in the media, soldiers would be trained to challenge news and claims and supplement them with other verified information.

Kurczyk explained that the military must be aware "that certain rules apply to them" when they publish content on social networks, referring to the official secrets of the Bundeswehr and its anchorage in the basic democratic order.

During an anti-terrorist raid in December against the so-called 'Reichsburger', some active and ex-soldiers who were part of the extremist network were detected. The 'Citizens of the Reich' do not recognize the Federal Republic or its democratic structures.
