The G7 calls for a "constructive" relationship with China to resolve the crises in Taiwan, Xinjiang or Hong Kong

The G7 group made up of the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan plus the European Union have expressed to China their desire to maintain a "constructive" relationship to resolve frictions over the open crises over the status of Taiwan, the abuses of minorities in Xinjiang or the denunciations of anti-democratic repression in the territory of Hong Kong.

In a statement at the end of the meeting held by the G7 ministers in the German city of Muenster, the members of the world's seven largest economies reach out to Beijing "wherever possible and for the benefit of mutual interest, particularly in that refers to global challenges for peace and security, health or the climate crisis".

"These challenges can only be successfully resolved through cooperation within the rules-based international order," added the meeting's final statement.

On the crisis in Taiwan and China's sovereignty claims, the G7 reiterates its basic position in favor of the island and reaffirms "the importance of peace and stability" along the strait. "We oppose any unilateral attempt to change the 'status quo' through force," he said.

Likewise, the G7 reiterates its commitment to continue declaring to China its concerns about the allegations of violations of the Human Rights of minorities in Xinjiang and Tibet, as well as the "constant erosion of the rights, freedoms and autonomy of Hong Kong".

"We remind China of the need to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter on the peaceful settlement of disputes and to refrain from threats, coercion, intimidation or the use of force," the group declares before asking the government once again of Beijing to "act in accordance with its international commitments and legal obligations".
