The EU reaches an agreement to approve the ninth round of sanctions against Russia

The leaders of the European Union have reached an agreement for the adoption of the ninth round of sanctions against Russia in retaliation for the aggression in Ukraine, diplomatic sources have informed Europa Press, after a meeting of European ambassadors in parallel to the meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Twenty-seven.

As confirmed by various diplomatic sources to Europa Press, the meeting of ambassadors has managed to unblock the situation to adopt the new batch of sanctions, which will be approved by written procedure. In this way, it has cleared up the reluctance of Poland and Lithuania that demanded guarantees to ensure that too many exemptions were not applied to the transport of Russian fertilizers.

Six member states with port interests, including Spain, had circulated a document to define the exceptions and ensure that they are limited exclusively to the maritime transport of food and fertilizers to developing countries.
