The EU prepares sanctions against Iran after collecting "sufficient evidence" of its support for Russia in the Ukraine war

BRUSELAS, 19 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The European Union is already preparing sanctions against Iran after collecting "sufficient evidence" of its involvement in the war in Ukraine, community foreign spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said on Wednesday.

At a press conference in Brussels, Massrali recalled the political will of the Twenty-seven to take measures "quickly" against Tehran for its military support for Moscow, after a series of attacks against civilians in Ukraine with Iranian-made drones.

"So far we have collected enough evidence," he said, after the foreign ministers asked this Monday to collect information to retaliate against Tehran, in case its role in supplying military material to the Russian Army is confirmed.

This is the EU's response to the wave of attacks against civilians in kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. This Monday, the same day that the Twenty-seven approved sanctions against a dozen people responsible for the repression of the demonstrations for the death of the young Iranian, Masha Amini, at least four people died as a result of the kamikaze drone offensive on the center of the Ukrainian capital.

During the meeting of European ministers, the issue of Iranian drones aroused "consistent unity" among the Member States, according to the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, who advanced that there will be no problem agreeing on a response if all the "necessary evidence" was gathered.

According to US intelligence, the Iranian authorities have not only supplied kamikaze drones to Moscow but have also sent military personnel to the island of Crimea to train and advise the Russian Army on the use of these drones.
