The European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides, has asked China to share data on its current situation of COVID-19 infections in a "transparent" way and has recalled that the only way to deal with the pandemic is to collaborate " closely" globally.
"China must transparently share data on its current situation. We will only be able to face the pandemic if we collaborate closely at the EU and global level," Kyriakides said on Thursday through his Twitter profile.
The commissioner's request coincides with the one made this Tuesday by the World Health Organization (WHO), which asked China for "faster and more reliable" data after expressing its doubts about the veracity of the numbers of infections and deaths of COVID-19 that the Asian country is notifying.
On the other hand, the commissioner has stated that she welcomes "with satisfaction" the agreement of the Member States on a coordinated response from the European Union (EU) to the outbreak of contagion in China at the meeting of the mechanism for the integrated political response to crises (IPCR, for its acronym in English).
The meeting concluded with the "strong recommendation" to EU countries to request a negative COVID-19 test from travelers from China, in order to respond to the easing of measures by the Chinese government as of April 8. January.
