The Electoral Court of Brazil opens a case against Bolsonaro for questioning the result of the elections

MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Brazil has opened this Wednesday an investigation against the outgoing president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, for questioning the result of the elections and for allegedly abusing his power during the electoral campaign.

TSE judge Benedito Gonçalves, the court's general inspector, has opened the case to analyze the allegations presented by the coalition of president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as reported by the G1 chain.

The legal team of the Workers' Party (PT), the formation of Lula da Silva, maintains that Bolsonaro and his allies tried to discredit and destabilize the presidential elections, spreading false news and misinformation about the integrity of the voting system.

They have also argued that the outgoing president abused his political and economic power by increasing social benefits and making advance payments to lower-income Brazilians in an attempt to increase his chances of re-election.

"Those investigated made an effort to spread false news about the electronic voting system and attack the electoral and higher courts, with the clear objective of harming voters," the TSE statement states, detailing that Bolsonaro has five days to Present your defense.
