The Constitutional Court admits the lawsuit filed by Castillo's lawyer for his release

MADRID, 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Peruvian Judiciary has admitted for processing the habeas corpus petition filed by Pedro Castillo's lawyer seeking the immediate release of the former president, who is in preliminary detention for a week for being accused of a crime of rebellion after announcing the dissolution of Congress and the calling of elections.

According to 'La República', the lawyer points out that Castillo was detained "irregularly and illegally" for this crime since, he says, there is no evidence that he used weapons, but that he limited himself to reading a speech.

The Third Constitutional Court of Lima has decided to admit the lawsuit against the Judiciary based on this argument for the alleged violation of Castillo's individual freedom, according to the local newspaper.

This Court thus distances itself from the decision of the Second Constitutional Court of Lima that on Thursday declared the habeas corpus filed against the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavides, and the head of the PNP Special Team, Colonel Harvey Colchado, inadmissible.
