The Congress of Peru dismisses Pedro Castillo

MADRID, 7 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Congress of Peru has approved this Wednesday in extraordinary session a motion of censure against President Pedro Castillo for moral incapacity, shortly after he announced the dissolution of the chamber and the call for new legislative elections.

On November 29, Peruvian parliamentarian Edward Málaga presented a third motion of no confidence against President Castillo, which was finally approved this Wednesday by Congress with 101 votes in favor of the 87 he needed. Of the 130 deputies, only a few from Peru Libre have voted against, the Peruvian radio station RPP has reported.

After the vote, the vice president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, will assume the presidency, as reflected in the Constitution.

Hours before, Castillo announced during a speech to the nation the dissolution of Congress and the call for new legislative elections. Consequently, there have been a cascade of resignations within his Executive.

Among those who have resigned are the Ministers of Labor, Alejandro Salas; of Education, Rosendo Serna; and from Foreign Affairs, César Landa, who has accused Castillo of having "violated" the Constitution by closing Congress.
