The Congress of Peru approves the debate on the motion of censure against Pedro Castillo

MADRID, 2 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Congress of Peru has approved this Thursday to submit to debate the motion of censure presented by the opposition against the president of the country, Pedro Castillo, who will face his third motion as head of government.

With 73 votes in favor, 32 against and six abstentions, the plenary session of Parliament has admitted to process the motion of no confidence against Castillo, whose debate and final vote will take place on December 7.

However, the measure must obtain the favorable vote of at least 87 legislators, corresponding to two thirds of the chamber, as reported by the RPP radio station.

The motion of censure has been supported by congressmen from the benches of Fuerza Popular, Renovación Popular, Avanza País, Somos Perú, and Alianza para el Progreso, as well as parties from the mixed group.

The first vacancy motion presented against Castillo obtained only the support of 46 deputies and was not even debated in plenary. The second attempt received 76 votes in favor, although in the final vote he was only able to gather 55 supports, far from the 87 necessary.
