The Congress of Peru admits to process a new constitutional complaint against Pedro Castillo

MADRID, 23 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations (SAC) of the Peruvian Congress admitted this Thursday for processing a new constitutional complaint against former President Pedro Castillo for having supposedly misinterpreted a decision of the Andean Parliament.

With 13 votes in favor, 6 against and no abstentions, the SAC will assess the constitutional accusation presented by the conservative bench of Avanza País, which also includes former Prime Minister Aníbal Torres and several members of his cabinet, including the former Prime Minister Minister Betssy Chávez, reported 'La República'.

According to congresswoman Rosselli Amuruz, who has promoted the measure along with other congresswomen from the same party, the Executive branch gave an erroneous interpretation of the negative position of Congress in relation to a question of confidence presented by the Government.

Specifically, according to Amuruz, the then Peruvian president affirmed that Congress had rejected said question of confidence, when in reality the decision was not brought to the scrutiny of Parliament, but rather it was directly the Chamber table that refused to take it to a vote.

Due to this supposed interpretation, Avanza País accused almost the entire government of failing to comply with the Constitution, considering that a constitutional violation had been committed, since only Congress would have the power to interpret the meaning of its decision, and not the Executive.

The events take place after the then Council of Ministers, chaired by Aníbal Torres, proposed reforming the law that regulates referendum calls, limiting 'de facto' the powers of Parliament in favor of more frequent referendums. among the population to carry out initiatives proposed by the Government.

Meanwhile, the SAC has already admitted for processing a constitutional complaint filed by the Attorney General's Office against the former Peruvian president in which he is accused of being the head of a criminal organization established within the Government.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Castillo would be the head of a criminal organization active in the Ministry of Transport and Communications in complicity with Juan Silva, former minister of this portfolio, with the former Minister of Housing Geiner Alvarado, as well as with officials of Provías Nacional and Provías Decentralized , the Presidential Office and businessmen and third parties, to favor the Puente Tarata III consortium and other companies in public bidding processes.
